Perfect for those who appreciate the art of driving.
The installation requires removal of the hydraulic actuator assembly from the transmission, and installing a custom machined actuator housing and linkages. The shifter is installed inside the center console, and a clutch pedal added to the brake pedal box into the factory dedicated spot. The engine controller is re-flashed for manual operation. The clutch bellhousing needs to be removed to change the clutch slave cylinder seals to be brake fluid compatible and the clutch line installed.
Although the kit installation is reversible, these cars do not have factory provisions for all of the manual parts. Four holes need to to be drilled in the firewall for clutch master cylinder installation and a hole in the driveshaft tunnel for the shifter cables. Drill jigs are provided for both with the kit, ensuring the holes are drilled in the correct locations. The two large holes for the clutch master cylinder and the cables can be drilled with a 1-1/2" (38mm) hole saw.
The clutch pedal comes with two pins. One uses a collar type clamp. A grooved pin for use with clips, similar to the brake pedal pin is included as an alternative part. The collar type simplifies the installation as the pedal box is not easily removed from the vehicle.
The shifter, shift actuator and linkage mounts all uses existing holes in the car. The factory center console can be used without external modifications. The internal center console structure does require cutting to provide space for the shifter. The rear AC vents in the center console and the right B-pillar need to be disabled, but the left side B-pillar vent and the rear floor vents remain functional with a duct provided with the kit. A block off plate for the right side rear AC vents increases air flow to other vents. Front AC system is not affected by the kit.
The standard kit comes with a welded stainless steel tower riser frame with a plastic cover and gate. The gate can be provided in different colors and top shapes depending on customer preferences. An optional CNC machined riser/gate is expected to be available at a later date. This cover can be changed at a later date in a few minutes.
The reverse lights can be wired using the original direction selector switch wiring running to the transmission controller in the trunk. This way, running new wires from the shifter to the trunk is not necessary. A jumper harness is provided for the shifter end, although some cutting and soldering needs to be done to the TCU wiring in the trunk. Detailed instructions on the five wires needing changes are provided with the instructions.
The kit is DIY installable. Removal and installation of the transmission and the torque tube are the heaviest parts that need to be handled, but these can be tackled by a competent DIY installer working with jack stands.
The kit includes an installation manual and parts catalog with exploded views, descriptions, quantities, and part numbers. With decades of engineering experience, we realize the importance of having these details. The custom made components of the kit have been designed with bushings and bearings as wear items. These wear items are off the shelf and can be sourced from multiple industrial part suppliers. The part descriptions generally describe these parts well enough that their sizes can be easily determined without guessing or measuring. The clutch master cylinder is an off the shelf part, as well as the switch used for reverse lights.
The shift cables use standard configurations with threaded rod ends (as opposed to difficult to source custom molded ends used on similar kits for other car brands), and could be duplicated by most cable suppliers. The rod ends, or heim joints, used with the cables are standard parts also available from industrial supply houses or major aftermarket auto parts houses.
Although wear parts can be sourced from other suppliers, we can supply them. We are a new company, but plan to be available well into the future to help support these kits. A wear part kit may be ordered.
Since the clutch bellhousing needs to be removed to install brake fluid compatible seals, it is a convenient time to change the coolant hose at the back of the engine. A silicone hose, clamps and crush washers for the tube connecting to this hose can be provided upon request.
The kit includes a 1 year, unlimited mileage warranty. This warranty covers the parts supplied. Any labor, such that may be required to adjust, troubleshoot, or replace the parts is not included.
The kit has some variables, mainly regarding the ECU programming and shift gate and shift knob options. Contact us if you are interested in purchasing a kit to discuss specifics. Pricing is well below similar kits offered for another Italian car brand which manual conversions have become popular in the past few years.
The attached video shows the converted car being driven while describing the parts of the conversion and a lot of the installation process.
